We've packed the Install LIRC Feisty guide into 1 executable script that will do almost everything for you. The script automatically installs: 1) CommandIR driver, 2) LIRC, 3) getlircconfig.sh, and 4) configures Ubuntu to load CommandIR & LIRC at start-up. To install on Ubuntu Feisty: - Download the LIRC Feisty Auto-installer to your Feisty computer.
- Either make it executable and click to run it or open a terminal and run "sudo sh ubuntu-feisty-install.sh"
- A blue "Package configuration" screen will appear: Just press 'enter' or 'tab', 'enter' on some layouts.
- This screen needs a small change. To set up CommandIR, simply deselect gpio and i2c from the list using your 'spacebar', and choose only cmdir. Then press 'enter' to continue again.
- A HOWTO page appears, just press 'enter'.
- A screen asks about building modules, just press 'enter' to select no.
- If this screen appears, select install the package maintainer's version.
Quite a few configurations, compilations, and updates will occur automatically. Upon completion you will see: Software installation complete. Next you must get the IR codes for the remotes you wish to use and for the devices you wish to control. Check out http://lircconfig.commandir.com/ or http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/ for some commonly used codes and replace /etc/lirc/lircd.conf with your codes.
